About the Parkinson's Action Network

What is Parkinson Disease?

v    Parkinson Disease is a Chronic, degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that affects the body’s ability to move

v    Common Symptoms include tremor, rigidity, slow movement, soft voice and lack of facial expression
v    Over 1.5 million people in the United States are living with Parkinson Disease

v    Over 225,000 were diagnosed before age 50!

v    There is no Cure for Parkinson Disease

v    The side effects of the treatments for Parkinson Disease can be even more debilitating that the disease itself.

*A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS WILL ALSO BENEFIT THE NORTHWEST GEORGIA PARKINSON DISEASE ASSOCIATION

Today PAN serves as the voice of Parkinson’s on numerous public policy issues affecting the Parkinson’s community. In addition to continuing our work on NIH funding and research, the Parkinson’s community is now a powerful voice on many crucial issues including Parkinson’s-specific programs at the Departments of Defense and Veteran’s Affairs, FDA drug approval issues, HHS programs (Medicare and Social Security), and our continuing struggle to achieve research freedom for stem cell research.

We at PAN have established a strong national grassroots advocacy program, which drives our success on PD-related issues. PAN continues to be the leading voice for patient advocacy in Washington, D.C., working to bring much-needed awareness to the public and lawmakers about the effects of Parkinson’s disease. We hope that with greater understanding, we will make great strides in finding better treatments and a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
